Family and Community Support

The Family and Community Support Program is available to assist individuals in the Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Ohio, and Wetzel counties living in their natural home that have a developmental disability .  It is a program of last resort to assist families when other resources and funding are not available to them.  The Family and Community Support Program is available regardless of income or age of the individual with a disability.

Developmental Disability is a severe chronic disability that is:

• Attributed to a mental or physical impairment, or combination of mental and physical impairments
• Manifested before the person is age twenty-two (22)
• Likely to continue indefinitely
• Substantially limiting functioning.  In three or more of the following areas of major life activities:
  • Self Care
  • Receptive or Expressive language
  • Learning
  • Mobility
  • Self-direction
  • Capacity for independent living
  • Economic self-sufficiency

A child may still be considered to have a developmental disability without meeting 3 or more of the above criteria and may have a high probability of meeting these criteria later in life without services and support.
